Finding Refuge and Aspirations: Veronica’s Tale

Veronica, a Myanmar refugee, was forced to flee her country along with her spouse and two children due to various social security requirements. They had been living on the Indian border before they entered Nepal with the help of various networks. Despite the challenges, Veronica held onto her faith in God, believing that everything would soon be alright.

Upon their arrival in Nepal, Veronica and her family found refuge at Assumption Church. They got involved in the church by participating in various activities for their spiritual growth as well as contributing their skills by taking care of the church property. One day she told her friends at the church that she always had a dream of owning a café. Upon her friend’s recommendation, she joined Higher Ground’s Bakery and Barista training program.

Following her training, she started working at Higher Ground as an intern. Despite her life challenges, Veronica finds contentment and aims to open her café someday. “Higher Ground provided me a stepping stone towards that dream”, Veronica expressed.
